The Auckland Boys’ Choir will perform Andrew Carter’s Benedicite alongside the Diocesan School for Girls Chapel Choir (Junior School), and the Holy Trinity Cathedral Choir.
Derived from the Book of Daniel, Benedicite is a song of praise offered by three young men saved from the fiery furnace:
“O all ye works of the Lord, bless ye the Lord, praise him and magnify him forever.”
Andrew Carter’s setting brings this ancient text to life with imagination and charm, including playful additional verses for children’s voices—featuring creatures great and small, from hedgehogs to dragonflies, alongside the familiar wonders of creation.
Based in York, UK, Andrew Carter had strong ties to New Zealand. During time spent here in the 1980s, he conducted the Auckland Dorian Choir and Auckland University choirs, and was the founding conductor of the Auckland Youth Choir.
Andrew died on 5 January 2026, and this performance is in tribute to his life and musical legacy.
This service is free of charge to attend.
